Choosing a temper
7075 is used when high strength relative to weight is a priority. Overaged plate tempers trade some peak strength for resistance to stress corrosion cracking; stress-relieved tempers are stretched to reduce residual stress before machining.
7075-T651 and 7075-T7351 are different plate tempers. T7351 is overaged for improved stress-corrosion resistance; both use stretching for stress relief. AMS 4045 covers T651 plate; AMS 4078 covers T7351 plate. Match the drawing’s temper and specification when selecting an option.
Machining and applications
Sharp carbide tooling, chip evacuation and coolant are useful for heavy cuts. Stress-relief stretching reduces residual stress, while the machining sequence and workholding still influence movement. Conventional structural MIG or TIG welding is generally unsuitable.

Saw cuts and machining allowance
Our standard saw-cut tolerance is +1/8″ / −0″ on cut length and width. Allow material for facing and finish machining. A different tolerance agreed on your order takes precedence.
Plate thickness, flatness and surface condition follow the supplied mill or producer specification. Full mill-stock pieces ship uncut and retain mill tolerances.
