What Is DFARS Compliance?
Ordinary 6061, 7075 and 7050 aluminum alloys are outside the specialty-metal definition in DFARS 252.225-7009. The clause mentions aluminum as an alloying element in certain steels; that does not classify aluminum plate as a specialty metal.
DFARS includes other requirements, and a purchase order can separately specify domestic melt, another permitted origin or additional certification. Section 252.225-7014 is currently reserved. Confirm the actual clause and revision that apply to the order.
Melt, smelt and manufacture identify different stages. State the required origin explicitly and use the country definition referenced by the applicable clause. A United States melt requirement is different from one that permits additional qualifying countries.
Documentation
Mill certifications are included. Match the supplied heat or lot to the material specification and certificate package required by your order. Origin information may be in the mill report or additional traceable source documentation; check the actual records.
Select the required origin option when quoting. Include any additional clause, approval, document format or retention requirement so it can be confirmed for the offered material. A general option label does not certify every requirement in a customer contract.
